Facebook/Myspace
With our recent assignment of creating a facebook or myspace profile, I already had this accomplished during my freshman year in college. I realize from 3 years ago to now the way that I would make a profile has changed drastically, over the years the privacy of these networking pages has increased greatly. I continually was changing my account settings to make my information more private because I was getting emails from people I didn't even know. For someone who is in middle school or even high school this could lead to false ideas of people and information. When I first opened my accounts I guess you could say I was naive and thought everyone was wanting to be friends and being nice. After learning that some of these people wanting to be my "friend" were 40+ year old men I changed my opinion quickly! Between the two accounts that I currently have I would definitely say that I like myspace better because it is not as easy to become "friends" with someone if you don't know some information about them, such as last name or email address. More security options are now in place and that makes me feel more comfortable, versus facebook you can make some information private but random people still request friends that they don't know. Also within the last year facebook aka stalkerbook gives overwhelming information about everyone that you are friends with. You are receiving every little bit of information about your friends and their facebook profiles which is a little over the top for me. Overall I like these networks/companies who have come up with ways to reinstate friendships with people you haven't seen in years, and I am glad that they are keeping up with the requests of the chatters to have different levels of privacy and security.
